Hola!. Hoy comparto un tema super explosivo de Bruno Mars. Esta versión en vivo tiene mucho power y cosas interesantes para ver! Vamos a empezar hoy con una primera parte viendo los grooves de la estrofa y el estribillo más unos hits y en la próxima publicación vamos a ver más grooves y fills en una segunda parte.

Lo primero es el groove de dos compases antes de entrar a la estrofa (compases 3 y 4 del PDF) que tiene esa síncopa en el bombo en la ultima corchea del primer compas de groove. Es un groove que se usa mucho así que no está de más practicarlo lo suficiente y probar distintas variantes en el bombo como para incorporar un poco de lenguaje. Lo siguiente son los "seteos" de los "Hits" en los compases número 5, 8, 10 y 12: se trata de dos notas super claras y concisas entre el segundo y tercer tiempo para setear los golpes que siguen. Cuando hablo de setear me refiero a una especie de "aviso" que le damos al resto de la banda a través de un fill para que los golpes que siguen y que van a ser tocados por toda la banda suenen bien ajustados. Esos seteos son una parte importante de nuestro roll como baterista. Lo que sigue es otro groove de dos compases similar al del comienzo del PDF y, justo antes del estribillo, unas demoledoras corcheas en el bombo para caer con redoblante y crash en el tiempo 4 dando la entrada al estribillo (compas 22): a esto practicalo bien lento al principio logrando mantener un volumen consistente en cada corchea en el bombo antes de subir la velocidad. Por último, otro groove de dos compases para el estribillo. y ojo con los acentos en la campana del ride!. Para practicar todas estas secciones no te olvides de probar el método que describo acá!!

Hi! Today I'm sharing this super explosive song by Bruno Mars. This live version has a lot of power and some really interesting things to look at. We are going to jump into this first part taking a look at the Verse and Chorus grooves plus some cool hits and next week with part two of this song we'll cover some James Brown-ish grooves and fills.

So, first thing we have is that two-bars groove just before the verse (on measures 3 and 4 of the PDF) with that syncopated kick. Btw this is a quite common groove so take your time to practice it and try some variations on the kick to incorporate some options to your playing. The next interesting thing to look at is the set-ups for the hits on mesures 5, 8, 10 and 12. Look how effective those couple of notes are between beats 2 and 3 to set up the following big short hits with the band. You don't need a super fill there, those two notes on the snare or toms are going to keep the rest of the band together and ready to play the up-beat hits nice and tight. Next we have another two-bars groove for 6 measures and right before the Chorus some super powerful eight notes on the kick (bar 22): try to practice this slow first and keeping a consistent volume on each note before you move on to the next thing which is another two-bar groove for the Chorus, watch out for those ride bell accents!!.
